Horizon West Neighborhood Guide

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

SCOPE | OPEN SKYLINE & OUTFITTED LIVING

Something altogether new, this area is the creative brainchild of Orange County officials and local landowners. In light of the typical urban sprawl of the twenty-first century planned community, Horizon West is being designed as a series of six villages that mindfully provide walkable town squares amidst neighborhoods that give a sense of elbowroom.

FEEL | HOLISTIC

A day in the life could look like. . .

Sunrise jog on one the bike path. Make breakfast as you keep an eye on the dog as it explores the backyard. Walk the kids to school (in some neighborhoods 8:30 am looks like a marvelous mass exodus of little people in oversized backpacks). Drive down the road to Hamlin for a meeting at Starbucks. Get lunch a few doors down at the Hamlin Market (swing by Publix Supermarket for a few things). Spend the afternoon honed in on a project in the home office. Have friends over for dinner. Family movie in the upstairs den

ARCHITECTURE | GARDEN CITY MEETS NEW URBANISM

All the villages of Horizon West are designed to meld, not only into one another but with the specific landscape and focus of that village. This means that the style and layout of the homes and commercial areas vary based off the area. Most are in the style of the twenty-first century contemporary colonial or Spanish villa with varying layouts and grassy yards with clean lines.

What’s a Garden City? The idea that healthy cities should be surrounded by “greenbelts” and consist of a proportional amount of residences, industry, and agriculture.

What’s New Urbanism? A community layout of walkable blocks, housing, and shopping within close proximity and several accessible public spaces.

MARKET | TBD

WHAT TO EXPECT | SPACE

With the oldest of the villages established in 1997, everything about this area is bright, clean and crafted; an experiment in the balance between proximity and space. If you’re looking for the quirks of a historic home or hamlet, this may not be your ideal place for laying down roots. However, if you’re looking for a clean slate with the best of all the essentials, this maybe home.

WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE | VILLAGES

Bridgewater

With Lake Speer at its heart, this village includes the neighborhoods of Summerport, Independence and Summerlake. It currently features several mixed-use and work-live offerings and has three lakefront office/shopping areas in the works.

Lakeside

This area sits between Lake Burden and Lake Reams. The very first Horizon West

Village, it features an elementary school, a beautiful collection of neighborhoods, a

growing amount of retail shops, and a neighborhood park set on Lake Spar.

Hamlin

Designed as the centerpiece of Horizon West, this village is the largest with a newly built, walkable waterfront area designed as the epicenter of communal activity of all of the Horizon West villages.

More villages are available.

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING | DEVELOPMENT, DISNEY & DRIVE TIMES

Development

Until it’s done, it’s construction.

Disney

While living in the extended backyard of the world’s largest attractions adds a truly

unique and rich flavor to everyday life, it also can mean that neighborhood

friendships have a shorter lifespan of geographical proximity (as lots of Disney

employees are on-contract with jobs subject to change every couple of years).

Drive Times

This is the price tag of space. All the necessities will be close, but getting to some

places across town will be an extra hike.
